
In 2008 Van Hauwaert Chocolates was founded by Spencer Van Hauwaert. Spencer’s experience started at a young age growing up in a family strong in the culinary arts that always enjoyed experimenting with various cultural foods and flavors. At the age of 9 Spencer learned the art of baking and cooking and has always enjoyed culinary arts. Over the years Spencer has focused on baking and confections, especially Chocolate. In high school Spencer received honors in Culinary Arts, worked in the school cafeteria for two years and competed in Skills Canada Competition in Baking.
In 2000 Spencer served a voluntary mission in the Caribbean for two years. There he learned the art and roots of Chocolate making. When Spencer returned home from his mission, he started making Chocolate from the cocoa beans. Eventually there were blocks and blocks of Chocolate in his house and his mother asked him “What was he going to do with all of it.” Then Spencer decided to start making Chocolates, but what kind?
Then Spencer researched recipes and visited local Chocolate shops to try the different Chocolates and get ideas. Over time Spencer realized that all the Chocolates he sampled were basically “the same”. As we said earlier Spencer grew up in a strong multi cultural culinary family. Spencer knew there was so much more to be experienced out there in the world. So he began making Exotic Chocolates. Chocolates full of flavor from fresh fruits, with spices and herbs from around the world.
And thus Van Hauwaert Chocolates was born…
